Gyantse Korbum

The Gyantse Kumbum

 

Within the Palkhor Monastery is the nine-tiered Kumbum Stupa. Its design isthat of a three-dimensional mandala, and represents a microcosmic model of the Buddhist universe. It was saved from destruction by the Red Guard because of the monasteries' historic link with Nepal.

These prayer flags are on a ridge over looking the Samye Ling monastery in southern Tibet. They mark the dwelling place of a local deity.

 

Barkor Protector

There are four of these temple roof guardians that protect the temple from negative forces. This one is on the roof of the Jokhang temple in Lhasa, which was built in the 7th century CE.

These marni stones lay at the entrance to the the valley of Chenrizi on the kora (walk) around Mt. Kailash.
